Ancho Chile Chili Recipe

Ingredients:

  • 4 tablespoons The Spice Alchemists Ancho Chile Chili Starter spice blend
  • 1 pound ground beef or ground turkey
  • 1 medium onion, diced
  • 1 (15 ounce) can red kidney beans, rinsed and drained
  • 1 (15 ounce) can tomato sauce
  • 1 (15 ounce) can diced tomatoes, undrained
  • Optional: 1-2 tablespoons tomato paste (for thickening)

Instructions:

  1. Brown the Meat: In a large pot or Dutch oven, brown the ground beef or turkey over medium-high heat. Drain off any excess grease.
  2. Sauté the Onion: Add the diced onion to the pot and cook until softened, about 5 minutes.
  3. Add the Spices: Stir in the 4 tablespoons of Ancho Chile Chili Starter spice blend. Cook for an additional minute, allowing the flavors to bloom.
  4. Combine Ingredients: Add the drained kidney beans, tomato sauce, and undrained diced tomatoes to the pot. Stir to combine.
  5. Simmer and Thicken (Optional): Bring the mixture to a boil, then reduce heat to low and simmer for at least 30 minutes, or up to 2 hours, stirring occasionally. If you want a thicker chili, stir in 1-2 tablespoons of tomato paste.
  6. Serve: Serve hot, topped with your favorite toppings like shredded cheese, sour cream, green onions, or tortilla chips.
